Introducing the f.ECOcon Series
When it comes to protecting the environment, two priorities stand out: recycling and conserving resources. At Fischer Elektronik, we’re taking sustainability one step further with the launch of our f.ECOcon series, starting with the SL 22 164 1 – 36 G ECO pin header. But what makes this pin header more eco-friendly than other connectors?
A Sustainable Design for a Greener Future
The key to the SL 22 164 1 – 36 G ECO’s sustainability lies in its materials. The insulating body is made from 80% recycled polyamide. By incorporating sprues and scrap material produced in-house during plastic manufacturing, we’ve created a circular production process that significantly reduces the need for raw materials.
This approach not only conserves resources but also dramatically lowers the product’s carbon footprint (PCF). The recycled materials used in this connector cut its PCF by nearly 55%, resulting in a low carbon footprint of just 12.36 g CO₂e for a full-contact connector (72 contacts).
Optimising Resources with a Reduced Gold Layer
In addition to using sustainable materials, we’ve optimised the connector’s design by applying a thinner gold layer to its contacts. Standard connectors typically use a gold layer thicker than 0.2 µm, providing durability for at least 50 mating cycles—often more than what’s necessary for most applications. By reducing the gold thickness by half, our new ECO version still offers sufficient conductivity and durability for up to 20 mating cycles, meeting the needs of most users while conserving valuable resources.
